Title: How to Enhance the Bioavailability of Poorly Soluble Compounds Using Lipid-Based Formulations
- Design strategies for the successful development of lipid-based formulations must give due consideration to the formulation’s digestibility and dispersibility.
- Discussing the mechanism by which these two important formulation considerations enhance absorption.
- Using lipid excipients to dissolve poorly water soluble drugs that are also readily digestible by the body. It is the end products of this digestion process that lead to the formation of drug-containing mixed micelles which in turn are responsible for enhancing the bioavailability of these types of drugs.
- Examining enhanced bioavailability is the dispersibility of the formulation. Proper choice of formulation excipients that self-emulsify upon oral ingestion to produce micro or nano dispersions often result in improved absorption.
- Selecting a suitable oral liquid dosage form. Presenting the use of softgels and liquid filled hard shell capsules with conventional gelatin-based shells and plant-based shells.
